Clinton Global Initiative

The Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) is a membership-based organization that brings together leaders from across the business, government, and nonprofit sectors to drive action on global challenges.

Established in 2005 by President Bill Clinton, CGI convenes global leaders to create and implement innovative solutions to the world’s most pressing challenges. CGI Annual Meetings have brought together 190 sitting and former heads of state, more than 20 Nobel Prize laureates, and hundreds of leading CEOs, heads of foundations and NGOs, major philanthropists, and members of the media. To date, members of the CGI community have made more than 3,400 commitments which have improved the lives of over 430 million people in more than 180 countries.

In 2015, Seeds of Peace made a Commitment to Action at the Clinton Global Initiative to accelerate local social change endeavors that have the potential to positively impact the dynamics of conflict in and between communities in the Middle East.

The $1.5 million three-year commitment was presented by Seeds of Peace Executive Director Leslie Lewin at the 2015 CGI Middle East & Africa Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

“Seeds of Peace is doing the hard work of building peaceful coexistence, one relationship at a time, and will be remembered by an entire generation of children who have grown up in the shadow of conflict. The success of Seeds of Peace will mean a brighter future for the region and the world.” — President Bill Clinton
