SYRACUSE | Syracuse Seeds and other youth participants attended a self-care workshop on November 19. Seeds of Peace partnered with InterFaith Works of Central New York to provide a workshop for 14 Syracuse youth on caring for themselves emotionally.
“Focusing on social justice work, especially as a teenager, is hard and draining work,” said Seeds of Peace Syracuse Program Coordinator Greg Barker. “We talked about how we act in our panic zones, how to get back down to our stretch zones, dealt with our inner critics, and set goals for the upcoming year.”
“[I learned to] always step out of my comfort zone and embrace myself,” said Ganga, one of the participants.
Overall, participants were able to analyze how they deal with their emotions in social justice work.
“My favorite thing we did at the Self-Care Workshop was coming up with the things your inner-critic says and having other people oppose that view,” said Orla, another participant. “Although it was not easy, it gave me a lot more self-awareness.”
