Heart program pairs Israelis, Palestinians
Pairs of Palestinian and Israeli Seeds are making weekly visits to a Tel Aviv hospital where young patients from the Middle East and Africa receive emergency heart surgery.
The visits, which will take place throughout 2010, are coordinated with the Save A Child’s Heart non-profit and are funded by the European Union.
During their day-long visits, the Seeds work with the patients, their families, and hospital staff to provide translation work and fun activities.
“The importance of what Seeds of Peace does here is enormous!” said one Seed. “Seeing these kids smiling and laughing is priceless. I’m so happy to have the chance to help them feel better, and give their families a few minutes to themselves.”
Another Seed added, “The most important thing was meeting people from the Gaza Strip and listening to their stories.”
Afghan Seeds Plant 150 Trees in Kabul, Fight Local Heroin Trade
Seeds in Afghanistan have launched a project to beautify Kabul schools and help local farmers halt poppy cultivation.
The Seeds purchased 150 trees from nurseries in the Nangarhar/Jalalabad region. The nurseries, owned by farmers who might otherwise be involved in poppy cultivation, are receiving assistance from USAID and the Afghan government under the Alternative Livelihoods Project.
Schools that received the trees were joined by Seeds and representatives of the Ministry of Education for a tree-planting ceremony.
This project, and Seeds of Peace’s larger program in Afghanistan, Pakistan and India, is made possible by a generous grant administered by the US Department of State.
