GAZA | Seeds across the Middle East and South Asia celebrated the month of Ramadan with Iftar dinners. Altogether, over 85 Seeds and 30 Educators participated in gatherings from Cairo to Kabul.
Ten Seeds from 2015 and 11 Seeds from previous years joined 27 Educators and five others at the Al Salam Restaurant on Gaza Beach for an Iftar dinner to break their fast and celebrate the third night of the Islamic month of Ramadan. The June 20 allowed the Seeds and Educators to reconnect, discuss current issues, and welcome the new group of Seeds. Another Iftar took place on July 17 in Ramallah, during which 39 Palestinian Seeds from the West Bank met.
“It’s more than food,” said Palestinian Program Director Mohammed Isleem. “It’s a great time to meet people from the past and have a good time.”
In Amman, 27 Jordanian Seeds joined five Educators on July 9 to share an Iftar dinner. During this time of community-building, the Seeds played a game of trivia, focusing on facts and memories from Camp.
“The moment when we sang the Seeds of Peace song was a moment of reinforcement of our communal solidarity,” said Jordanian Programming Director Farah Bdour. “(It was) a moment of reassurance of our fundamental identity as members of the Seeds of Peace family that work together in the quest for peace and constructing a better future.”
