Arc of the Program
Community Building & Learning Together
As participants gather from around the world, they will focus on building a community of peacemakers. They will learn together about the issues most important and impactful to each participant’s community.
Advocacy Preparation & Advocacy Day
Participants will prepare together to spend time on Capitol Hill and around Washington, D.C. Collectively, we meet with dozens of congressional offices and policy experts, lobbying for a variety of globally relevant issues.
Meetings with diplomats, policy advocates, and grassroots activists
Participants will spend time meeting with leaders to deepen their skills, tools, and methods for creating change in their communities.
Project Planning
The program ends with multiple sessions focused on supporting participants as they evaluate community needs, begin to plan their own project(s) for social change, and commit to taking action as a peacemaker as they return home.
During the Global Institute, participants meet scholars, diplomats, policy advocates, religious leaders, and grassroots activists from diverse backgrounds, who help lead the sessions outlined above. As experts in their own communities, participants have the opportunity to share their knowledge and personal experience of the complex social issues facing their communities and their world. Our program sessions create opportunities for participants to engage in a meaningful exchange of information and ideas.
“Being a young activist and advocate means that I am in this not to support a political agenda—I am in this to help others, and build a better future for me and my community.”

We will have one location that is our “home base.” This is where we will sleep and eat. We will also spend some of our dialogue and workshop time there. Our schedule also provides lots of opportunity to visit and experience many different areas and places in Washington, DC, including government buildings, museums, and a chance to explore the different neighborhoods and communities that make DC unique. Our Saturdays are free days, giving you a chance to explore the DC area on your own or in small groups. We offer lots of suggestions of fun activities or interesting things to see or do.
“I have a responsibility to work for change because I am a human being, and the fact that other humans are suffering is more than enough reason to fight for change.”
