JERUSALEM | Which path a student decides to take after high school can be one of the most significant choices of their lives, and a little wisdom from those who have been in their shoes can make the road ahead a lot less daunting.
Forty-one Israeli Seeds gathered on October 19 as part of “A Look Into the Future,” an event designed to give Seeds in the 11th and 12th grades a chance to discuss the next phase of their lives—be it college, different types of army service, or volunteering.
About half of the 41 Seeds in attendance were older alumni who shared from their own experiences in transitioning into adulthood, and shed light on the difficulties, as well as the opportunities, that lie ahead of the students, said Maayan Poleg, a Seeds of Peace Middle East Program Director.
Many of the alumni will also serve as points of contact for the junior Seeds when it’s time for them to make their decisions about their futures.
“It is beyond inspiring and meaningful to be able to hear and learn from older Seeds who have once faced the same questions we are facing today and to be able to learn from them,” said one Seed who participated in the seminar.
The gathering also urged students to look at their options from a critical point of view, Mayaan said, asking themselves why they might choose one path over another, and how they might go about pursuing those choices.
“Seeds of Peace has taught me to put a question mark on everything,” Yaron, a 2012 Seed, said at the event. “It means every decision is more difficult to make but we should always be critical towards ourselves and the path we choose.”
