MUMBAI | Six Indian Seeds took part in a workshop on Nonviolent Communication (NVC) on March 27.
The workshop, facilitated by Delegation Leader Sachin Jai, taught participants how to respond compassionately and listen with empathy through interaction, role playing, and creative writing.
NVC posits that we only resort to violence when we don’t recognize more effective strategies for meeting our needs.
“Need is what makes you see people as humans,” said Drumil, one of the participants. “The basic concept of Seeds of Peace becomes very clear when you get this understanding that need is what drives people to do what they do or think what they think.”
“It’s better to understand other people’s needs during the conversation rather than taking efforts later on to make things better,” said Krisha, another participant.
“The most striking thing for me was the realization that the cause of a feeling is not the other person’s behavior, but our perception towards that behavior that makes us feel in a certain way.”
