WASHINGTON | Palestinian-American philanthropist Hani Masri was presented with the 2007 Peacemaker Award for his long time advocacy work on behalf of children’s issues and Middle East peace. The award was presented by Seeds of Peace President Nicolla Hewitt at the organization’s Spring Gala in Washington, DC, on May 17th.
“Hani Masri has forged bridges of understanding throughout the region,” Hewitt said. “He has embraced challenges and overcome them, and more importantly, continues to reach out to children who need our help so urgently.”
In addition, Bobbie Gottschalk also received Special Recognition for her outstanding work and long-time service to advancing the Seeds of Peace mission. For many years, she was responsible for program development and administration, on-going contact with regional coordinators, and continuing contact with all the participants in Seeds of Peace. She continues to serve on the Board of Directors as the Ombudsman for the alumni of Seeds of Peace programs.
The event was Co-Chaired by Debbie Dingell and Dan Nelson. Nearly two dozen members of Congress were part of the Honorary Congressional Committee, and dozens of ambassadors participated as Co-Chairs of the Honorary Diplomatic Committee.
