GAZA | Twenty Palestinian Seeds and Educators gathered on January 25 in Gaza as part of Seeds of Peace’s ongoing series of Community Dialogues. The Community Dialogue Program is supported by USAID and helps Israeli and Palestinian Seeds and Educators identify, design, and implement programs based on what they perceive as the most important conflict-related issues facing their societies.
Participants in Gaza focused on the many contentious issues surrounding Jerusalem faced by Palestinian and Israeli negotiators.
The session began with an overview of the modern history and politics of Jerusalem, and the status of the city and neighboring settlements as viewed by the United Nations, European Union, and the United States. The dialogue was led by a Seed, and allowed participants to wrestle with critical questions, including whether Jerusalem is primarily a historical, religious, or nationality-based issue.
The dialogue illustrated to participants that even within Gaza, there are a multitude of opinions about issues at the core of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
