LAHORE | Eleven teams from various government, semi-government and private schools of Lahore participated in the Seeds of Peace Dramatics Festival 2011 on October 22 at the Ali Institute of Education. The grade 8 to 10 students participated in the competition and performed a 10 to 15 minutes skit on the theme of “Imperfection: Man’s Greatest Beauty.” The competition encouraged the participants to see beauty in the imperfect world around them. They took different issues (disability, hopelessness and its solution, extremism and its after effects, situation of 3rd gender in our community, etc.) and presented their impression of imperfection as human’s beauty. The event was managed by a team of 20 Seeds.
The hall was fully packed (estimated number was 450 to 500 people) including a mix gathering of students, parents, school teachers as well as State Alumni and others. The crowd encouraged young students of grade 8-10 for their wonderful performances. Well known personalities from film and drama production sector Mr. Hafeez Tahir, (Sr. Producer, Pakistan Television), Dr. Samana Zeeshan (film and meida consultant) and Mr. Ameer Abbas (News anchor at Express News) gave points to each performance and decided the winners of the event. Drama Festival, 2011 was won by The Trust School Thokar Niaz Baig, whereas LGS for Boys Johar Town and Salamat School System for Boys became runner up and 2nd runner up respectively for this year.
The best male performance trophy was given to Ali Nizam ud-Din from The Trust School, Thokar Niaz Bagi whereas Izba Batool from DPS Girls was chosen as the best female performer. The event created a unique pool of students that are commonly not present together at a single event, encouraging them to understand the diversity that exists within our own community.
Jennifer A. Larson, a Public Affairs Officer at the US Consulate, Lahore, gave away the prizes and appreciated the work done by young seeds. Well known scholar and media person Dr. Ajmal Niazi also attended the drama competition. Almas Butt, Director of SOS Village Lahore and Vice President of Seeds of Peace Pakistan, thanked the guests and management team for their extraordinary work. The organizers emphasized that it was extremely important to provide similar positive opportunities to our youth to showcase their talent.
