LONDON | Matthew Courey, a 2009 Camp counselor, won £28,000 ($42,000) on March 24 for Seeds of Peace. The competition was sponsored by his employer, Credit Suisse/UK.
Over 40 charities were nominated by Credit Suisse employees at this year’s competition, and five (including Seeds of Peace) were selected as finalists. These finalists competed on the basis of a short presentation and a five-minute “grilling” by senior bank executives.
Courey’s pitch came in 2nd, securing £20,000 to bring Counselors to Jerusalem for the summer and to help build capacity and establish structure for Seeds of Peace regional programming.
The counselor’s Credit Suisse colleagues then contributed an additional £8,000, bringing the total raised to £28,000.
Courey, who first became involved in Seeds of Peace as a member of its Young Leadership Committee eight years ago, is currently chairman of Seeds of Peace UK.
