A first in fragrances: New York parfumerie Bond No. 9 introduces the scent of Peace, which sponsors the international organization Seeds of Peace
NEW YORK | Perfumery has never smelled so good.
As millennial citizens of New York, we at Bond No. 9 are well aware that nothing could be more precious or desirable these days than peace. So, we thought, why not turn our passion for peace into an eau de parfum? After all, perfumes are all about passions … and we are perfumers. Most of our artisanal, New York-centric fragrances celebrate specific neighborhoods in our great city. But last year we introduced a citywide fragrance that captures the spirit of understanding and tolerance pervading every borough and every street of our great metropolis since 9/11. We named this fragrance Scent of Peace. It is perhaps the world’s first civic-minded perfume.
This year, the Scent of Peace goes further beyond the usual sensory feel-good role of perfumery as it takes up a worthy cause—officially sponsoring Seeds of Peace, an international organization that resonates with a similar spirit of interconnectedness.
Seeds of Peace is dedicated to bringing together young leaders from regions of conflict (mainly in the Middle East), enabling them to forge bonds of empathy and respect for one another. (What a beautiful goal!) Throughout 2007, a portion from the sale of each bottle of the Scent of Peace will be donated to Seeds of Peace.
Intended for men and women alike, Scent of Peace doesn’t take the typical soothing route of most “calming” fragrances. Instead, it is an a zesty mélange of grapefruit, black current, lily of the valley, cedarwood, and musk, contained in a flacon displaying a dove in graceful flight. We see this high-energy emissary of peace soaring over our city, across the country, across the seas, bringing its message to a waiting world. Although peace may not yet be a worldwide reality, Seeds of Peace and the Scent of Peace, each in its own way, are sending it airborne.
Besides being available in its 3.4 oz. artist-designed bottle and box presentation ($180), The Scent of Peace may be purchased by the ounce ($45), either in a 2-ounce basic spray flacon with gilt honeycomb cap ($25) or in our unique vintage or art bottles, featured in a wide variety of designs ($60 – $200).
