IMPACT: ECONOMIC

Empowering Egyptian women in the employment sector.

Challenge

The unemployment rate for women in Egypt is staggeringly high, and women are at a disadvantage when it comes to starting their own businesses.

Solution

Create an educational technology platform in Arabic providing workforce development tools specifically geared towards women.

Mariam has been involved in community development initiatives for as long as she can remember—from volunteering as a teacher for refugees, to becoming the Chair of Social Responsibility in her university’s Student Union, to her current role as Program Officer at the Center for Development Services, a development consultancy and project management organization based in Cairo.

Mariam was chosen as a World Economic Forum Global Shaper, a Global Champion for Change by UN Women’s Empower Women, and has presented at international summits including Oxford University’s Women’s Leadership Symposium and RTI International’s Ending Gender Inequalities Conference in Johannesburg. She is a certified SCUBA diver and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in 2012.

“I’m most passionate about helping women in my region break barriers, build themselves up, and go beyond what they thought their potential could be.”
