NEW YORK | On Sunday, January 13, 2002, John Wallach received the International First Freedom Award, which is granted by the Council for America’s First Freedom. This organization was created to commemorate the Commonwealth of Virginia’s role as the first state to incorporate a charter on religious freedom into its constitution.
The First Freedom Awards are presented annually to recognize extraordinary contributions in advancing freedom of religion in communities in Virginia, across the United States, and around the world. Year 2002 recipients include Seeds of Peace and John Wallach, Dr. Marty E. Marty and the The Reverend Benjamin P. Campbell.
Past recipients of this award include British Prime Minister Tony Blair, and U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Richard Holbrooke.
