DEXTER, MAINE | On June 28, approximately 25 educators from the Middle East, South Asia, and the United States attended an all-day workshop at the Ridgeview Community School in Dexter.
The educators are here through a program at the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Otisfield, where they are serving as Delegation Leaders for teens from their respective countries while simultaneously engaging in their own facilitated dialogue sessions.
During the Dexter workshop, they learned about opportunities available to local students through their public schools. Workshop leaders particularly highlighted ways in which teachers in the public school system encourage and empower children to become leaders within their community, whether this leadership takes place in the area of responsible technology use, through sports, or by participating in the local Key Club.
Dexter has had a relationship with Seeds of Peace since 2007, when it sent five high school juniors and one educator. Since then, another several dozen students have attended the Camp, with eight students attending this summer.
