AMMAN | On February 10, Jordanian Seeds met to learn and dialogue about the unique role that Jordan plays in promoting peace and security in the Middle East. Twenty-seven Seeds from as far away as Aqaba attended the daylong seminar and were joined by ten Jordanian Seeds of Peace Educators.
Dr. Kamel Abu Jaber, president of the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and former Jordanian foreign minister, opened the seminar with a discussion about Jordan’s historic responsibilities in the region. He also touched on current political developments and Jordan’s position as a third party in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations.
Following a question and answer session with Dr. Jaber, Seeds and Educators held separate dialogue sessions about the prospects for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations and the Jordanian role in the peace process.
Lt. General Ihsan Shurdom, former chief of staff of the Royal Jordanian Air Force and Jordan Parliament senator, addressed the group about regional power dynamics and shared his analysis of the conflict based on his personal engagement in track two peace negotiations and initiatives between Israelis, Jordanians and Palestinians.
The day concluded with the group discussing their responsibilities as Jordanian Seeds and ways to help promote peace, justice and security within their society and with their neighbors.
