MUMBAI | Thirty students from six Mumbai schools took part in a two-day critical media literacy workshop organized by Seeds of Peace.
The April 25 and 26 seminar exposed participants to a variety of issues related to how society is influenced by pop culture and media.
“It taught us not to take things—especially the facts placed by media—on face value, but question them and get to know more about them,” said Rhea, one of the workshop participants.
The students took part in a discussions designed to provoke reflection and learning around around how peace and violence is portrayed in the media, and the idea that everyone has the opportunity to become a superhero by promoting peace.
“The superhero activity showed us that you don’t need extraordinary abilities to become a superhero,” said Rhea. “Even an ordinary person can become a superhero by performing small deeds of goodness.”
The workshop concluded with a certificate award ceremony during which students reflected on their new-found perspectives.
