KABUL | Seeds of Peace Afghanistan partnered with Marifat High School for a Bridges to Peace/International Day of Peace program on September 21.
The event brought more than 1,500 people, including Seeds and non-Seeds, to commemorate the day through a series of activities.
The first half of the program included activities performed by the students including music and sports, and two speeches by the day’s keynote speakers. The speakers talked about the importance of a bottom-up approach for reaching peace in which youth participants play the main role.
Two students were given awards for writing the best poems about peace. In accepting the award, one of the students encouraged his classmates to challenge themselves and talk to someone who they consider the “other.”
In the second half of the program, 50 participants marched along the streets to the main yard of the high school wearing Bridges to Peace Afghanistan t-shirts.
