NEW YORK | Over 1,300 guests gathered together for the 9th annual Peace Market, celebrating 20 years of Seeds of Peace mission to equip young leaders from conflict regions with the skills to make peace.
The event raised more than $300,000 for Seeds of Peace programs, opening a new decade of Seeds of Peace initiatives.
The 2013 Peace Market featured a live performance by City of the Sun and DJ sets by Dave 1 of Chromeo and Questlove. The two rocked the stage after a live auction which raised over $30,000. The bidders competed for items like MTV Music Award and NCAA Final Four tickets, vacations in Jamaica and Mexico, as well as an exclusive tour of the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine.
Many Seeds attended the event and directly shared their stories and experiences with the guests, who included Olivia Culpo (Miss Universe), Nana Meriwether (Miss USA), Vincent Piazzo (Boardwalk Empire), Chef Rocco DeSpirito and Andrew Jenks (MTV).
The guests engaged in the live #PeaceMarket tweet campaign, enjoyed signature Seeds of Peace Cocktails offered by Liquid Lab, and food from renowned New York restaurants. The 4th Annual Hummus Taste-Off was an integral part of the event: Hummus Kitchen and Hummus Place won the celebrity judges’ choice and People’s Choice nominations respectively.
We would like to thank all of the guests who came to support Seeds of Peace, with special thanks to our honoree Scott Birnbaum and his family.
We recognize the on-going time and support of the Young Leadership Committee and the 2013 Peace Market Host Committee which was responsible for organizing the event and making it an incredible success.
